Peter Voss (born January 28, 1941 in Hamburg ) is a German journalist .

Life

Voss grew up in Lübeck and attended the Johanneum in Lübeck there . 1958/1959 he was a student at a high school in Michigan / USA. From 1961 he first studied German and English, later sociology with the minor subjects law and ethnology at the University of Göttingen . During this time he was a member of the singer stem Gotia Göttingen later with the singer stem Baltia Kiel for singers shaft Gotia et Baltia Kiel Göttingen merged, which was a reason for his withdrawal from the singer shank.

He first worked for various newspapers before he was news editor at ZDF from 1971 to 1977 . He then worked for a year as ZDF correspondent in West Berlin and from 1978 to 1981 he was deputy editor-in-chief of the ARD magazine Report Munich at BR .

In 1981 he returned to ZDF, where he was initially deputy editor-in-chief and from 1983 editor-in-chief of heute-journal . From 1985 to 1993 he acted as head of the ZDF main editorial office "News" and as moderator of the heute journal. From 1990 he was also deputy editor-in-chief of ZDF.

On April 1, 1993, Voss became director of Südwestfunk (SWF). When he merged with Süddeutscher Rundfunk (SDR) to form Südwestrundfunk (SWR) in 1998 , he became its founding director. In 2002 he was confirmed as director of the SWR for a further six years. On March 31, 2006, Peter Voss announced that he would not apply for another term of office. On April 30, 2007 he gave up the office; his regular service would have ended on April 30, 2008. On December 1, 2006, the SWR Broadcasting Council elected Peter Boudgoust, the previous SWR administrative director, to be his successor, who took over the office on May 1, 2007.

From April 1997 he was a professor at the State University for Design in Karlsruhe . In 2000 he published the volume of poetry Between the Craters . From 2001 to October 14, 2007 he headed the Sunday journalists' talk press club on ARD every two weeks . In 2007 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg.

In 2009, Voss took over the position of President of the private Quadriga University in Berlin . The then new university offers a course for PR people. This met with public criticism because the lines between journalism and PR were being blurred. Voss said that he had decided to take on the function because it was about the "professionalization of corporate communication, especially ethical issues". It “is also in the spirit of journalists that openness is the best policy here”.

Voss resigned from the party in 2009 after 35 years of membership in the CDU and accused her of violating the constitution and of an "attack on the independence of the broadcaster" because of the events surrounding the non-renewal of Nikolaus Brender's contract . Voss called for the ZDF State Treaty to be corrected: “There are some unconstitutional provisions that could be changed.” Voss did not see the Hessian Prime Minister Roland Koch alone as the culprit , but also included Chancellor Angela Merkel in his criticism: “Merkel's participation is obvious. I am sure that Koch would not have prevailed without the blessing of the federal government - he was just the mouthpiece. "

In his program Peter Voss asks on December 15, 2008, Voss described himself to the former Bishop Wolfgang Huber as “church-loyal, church tax-paying agnostic”.
