Sleepers Among Us (2002)

Terrorism cannot be defeated militarily, only a real dialogue between cultures leads out of the impasse, so the blurb concludes. The reviewer for the Frankfurter Rundschau emphasizes that Theveßen does not consider the attacks of September 11th to be as surprising as it was later portrayed, but that there were enough signs and warnings.

The effectiveness and the will to destroy of the terrorists are still underestimated and at the same time the rights of the citizens in the western states are being restricted more and more. The western democracies cannot cope with the problem of terrorism, but new political concepts are not in sight, says Florian Peter Kühn.

The Bush Balance Sheet (2004)

The review by Hartmut Jennerjahn ( Deutschlandradio Berlin ) comes to the conclusion that Theveßen does not hide his distance from Bush, even the subtitle is unmistakable: "How the US President betrayed his country and the world." Debate on the President's policy and the stigma of a questionable vote count in the state of Florida. The president orientates himself on a template-like view of good and bad.

Terror Alert (2005)

After reading the blurb, Elmar Theveßen states that German politics underestimated the actual threat. He discusses ways to track down potential assassins. He advocates seeking dialogue instead of marginalizing Muslims. According to the reviewer of the world , Martin Riexinger , the author is more in his element when it comes to portraying the problems of threats and Germany's inadequate disaster control skills than when analyzing Islamism, for which he lacked the necessary knowledge of the history of religion .

Terror in Germany (2016)

In the prologue of his book on the deadly strategies of the Islamists (subtitle) Theveßen writes that 9/11 was a big trap in which we acted as always: “short-term, reflexive, predictable”: “We have a war on terrorism organized, which was run solely by the armed forces, intelligence services and police. In doing so, we have failed completely to fight for the hearts and minds of those who are now the new generation of terror of unprecedented proportions. "

In the first chapter that follows, Theveßen analyzes the spread of terror and the farce of how it was combated, followed by the second phase of isolated attacks and the script of terror that has been on the Internet for many years and poses an existential threat to the whole world.

The third chapter is devoted to the emergence of Islamism with the knowledge and support of the USA, and chapter four to the empty actionism of the authorities, who have long known about the threat.

In the chapter “Clash of Cultures” the author analyzes right-wing radical prejudices against Islam. In the chapter “Shaping the future positively” he outlines a change in perspective from a “security-driven policy” to a “people-driven policy”. In the last chapter he calls for the renewal of German security policy.

Positions and reception

ZDF Theveßen is also known as an expert on terrorism , organized crime , economic crime and intelligence services called. After the 2011 attacks in Norway , he was criticized for not ruling out an Islamist terrorist attack, far from the facts.

Quote

“... it is only a matter of time before the supporters of IS take their war beyond individual acts into the streets of German cities. High time to face the threat in a new and different way. This requires a national concept, embedded in an international master plan. The indispensable basis for this is a clear definition of the Federal Republic of Germany's national interests and a reliable participation in their implementation. "
