Gap dimension

The gap dimension is the distance between two neighboring components . It is important in machine and body construction , for example .

In car body construction, small gaps on doors or hood lids are considered a quality feature and a factor for low air resistance . An automobile manufacturer can only realize this if the body parts are manufactured with a sufficiently low manufacturing tolerance .

The gap can be determined with a vernier caliper or a feeler gauge .
