Birgit Honé

Birgit Honé (born November 8, 1960 in Bad Schwartau ) is a German administrative lawyer , ministerial official and politician ( SPD ). She has been Minister for Federal and European Affairs in the Weil II cabinet since 2017 .

Life

Honé grew up in the Harburg district . After graduating from high school, she studied law , which she completed with the legal state examination with qualification for judicial office . From 1988 to 1990 she was managing director of the youth association “ Die Falken ” in the SPD district of Hanover and from 1990 to 1994 parliamentary advisor to the SPD parliamentary group in the Lower Saxony state parliament , responsible for the areas of social affairs, work, housing and equality. From 1992 to 1994 she headed the ministerial office of the Minister of Social Affairs Walter Hiller and from 1994 to 1999 she acted as managing director of the SPD parliamentary group in Lower Saxony.

In 1999, Honé moved to the Lower Saxony State Chancellery, initially becoming Head of Department 2 (Legal, Human Resources) and then until 2002 as Head of Department 1 (Policy guidelines, departmental coordination, cabinet and Federal Council matters). In 2002, she appointed Prime Minister Sigmar Gabriel in place of Ulrike Wolff-Gebhardt to the district president of the administrative district of Lueneburg . In addition, she was a member of the supervisory board of the Lower Saxony company for the final disposal of hazardous waste until 2002 and a member of the supervisory board of JadeWeserPort-Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH and Seefischmarkt und Hafenumschlag Cuxhaven GmbH until 2003.

After the state elections in Lower Saxony in 2003 and the formation of a CDU / FDP government, Honé was replaced as District President by Bernd Hufenreuther . In 2004 she moved to the Lower Saxony State Audit Office as a member of the Senate . From 2004 to 2010 she was responsible for the areas of the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Protection of the Constitution, and from 2011 to 2013 she was responsible for the areas of the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Protection of the Constitution.

One year before the state elections in Lower Saxony in 2013 , Honé was presented in the shadow cabinet by Stephan Weil as Minister for Europe, Regional Development and Agriculture. After the state elections, she was appointed to the Lower Saxony State Chancellery as State Secretary on February 19, 2013 as part of the formation of the government. In the State Chancellery she is responsible for the “Europe and International Cooperation” and “Regional Development and EU Funding” departments. She is also a member of the European Ministers' Conference of the Länder and a member of the Committee of the Regions (CoR).

On November 22, 2017, she became Minister for Federal and European Affairs in the Weil II cabinet .

Honé lives in Sehnde . She is divorced and has a daughter.
