Walter Hiller

Walter Hiller (born October 9, 1932 in Dettingen an der Erms ) is a German SPD politician. He was Lower Saxony's Minister of Social Affairs from June 21, 1990 to October 1996 . Walter Hiller is married and has three children.

Professional background

After attending primary school, Walter Hiller completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk . He initially planned to enter the service of the Protestant Church , which he did not do despite visiting the Protestant University of Applied Sciences Reutlingen-Ludwigsburg in Ludwigsburg near Stuttgart .

Hiller worked at Volkswagen since 1960 , in 1965 he was elected to the works council and participated in the establishment of IG Metall in the salaried area. In 1975 he became a consultant for the tasks of the general and group works council. In 1984 he became managing director of the works council of the Volkswagen plant in Wolfsburg and of the group works council of Volkswagen AG . In 1986 he was promoted to chairman of the works council of the Wolfsburg plant and chairman of the general works council of the AG and became an employee representative on the supervisory board of Volkswagen AG and chairman of the company's group works council. In 1996 he reached the age of 64 and retired, in November 1996 he left the Volkswagen Supervisory Board.

Political career

Walter Hiller joined the SPD in 1964. He was involved in employment, health and social policy. In 1986 he was elected to the Wolfsburg City Council. In 1990 Hiller succeeded Hermann Schnipkoweit as Minister of Social Affairs of Lower Saxony, and in October 1996 (around his 64th birthday) Wolf Weber succeeded him as Minister of Social Affairs.
