Luther Memorials Foundation in Saxony-Anhalt

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Luther Memorials Foundation in Saxony-Anhalt was established in 1997. Five museums are in her care:

Luther's birthplace
Luther's house where he died

The first four houses have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996 . "Martin Luther's Parents' House" opened on June 14, 2014. The buildings, collections and exhibitions are maintained and developed by the foundation. Preserving and conveying the legacy of Martin Luther and the Reformation is the task of the foundation.

Broad communication of the history of the Reformation is one of the foundation's central tasks and concerns. To this end, the employees design and organize exhibitions and conferences, develop the collections and publish their research results. Guided tours of the exhibition, lectures and readings round off the varied offer.

Another central aspect of mediation work is cultural education. In all five museums, the foundation has developed a variety of museum educational programs that offer children and young people, but also adults, the opportunity to deal with the Reformation in a playful way and to get to know its protagonists.

The research profile of the foundation focuses primarily on the processing of the visual impact of the Reformation and the history of its own houses as examples of Luther's reception. Scientific activities include research projects, conferences and the issuing of publications.

In 2007, the “Luther 2017” office was set up under the umbrella of the foundation. The foundation was thus a key player in the preparations for the Reformation anniversary in 2017 , which marked the 500th anniversary of the publication of Luther's 95 theses .
