Bernhard Sterz

Bernhard Sterz (born September 26, 1962 in Münster ) is a German administrative lawyer . He has been with the Sachsen-Anhalt Public Insurance Company (ÖSA) since 2012 . Previously, Sterz was Lord Mayor of the city of Burg (near Magdeburg) from 1998 to 2009 and State Secretary in the Ministry of Justice of the State of Saxony-Anhalt from 2009 to 2011 .

Life and work

Sterz studied law at the universities of Saarbrücken and Cologne from 1983 to 1988 . After the first state examination in law in 1988, he worked as a research assistant at the chair for public law and constitutional history (Prof. Jörg-Detlef Kühne ) at the University of Hanover until the end of 1990 . From 1991 Sterz was a trainee lawyer in the legal preparatory service in North Rhine-Westphalia, where he passed his second state examination in law at the end of 1993 .

He initially worked from 1994 to 1996 as a civil servant in the state administration of North Rhine-Westphalia. He worked there in the Ministry of the Interior , in the Düsseldorf district government and for the state commissioner for data protection . From 1996 to 1998 he worked in Saxony-Anhalt as a consultant in the Ministry of the Interior .

He took office as Lord Mayor of Burg on October 22, 1998. Sterz was directly elected on September 27, 1998 in the first ballot with 61.34% of the vote. He was re-elected on September 18, 2005 with 60.35% of the votes in the first ballot. Sterz was a member of the district council of the Jerichower Land district from 2004 to 2009. When he was appointed State Secretary, Sterz automatically resigned from the office of mayor at the end of October 20, 2009.

On October 21, 2009 Sterz was appointed State Secretary in the Ministry of Justice of the State of Saxony-Anhalt. He succeeded Burkhard Lischka , who moved as a member of the 17th German Bundestag . As part of the formation of a government after the state elections , Sterz was put into temporary retirement on April 20, 2011 . His successor was Eberhard Schmidt-Elsaeßer .

Sterz has been employed by the Sachsen-Anhalt Public Insurance Company (ÖSA) since January 15, 2012. There in the management he is the department head for the business area “Municipalities / Housing Sector ”.

Sterz was awarded the Gold Cross of Honor of the Bundeswehr in 2010 . Sterz has been married since 1991.

Volunteering

Mush is a founding member of the development association Landesgartenschau Castle for alignment in 2018. In addition, mush is a member of the development association Engineering monuments in Saxony-Anhalt to the rescue of the ship lift Magdeburg-Rothensee and club Monument Magdeburg Law eV

Political party

Sterz has been a member of the SPD since 1994 and was a member of the state executive committee of the SPD Saxony-Anhalt from 2002 to 2009 . He is also a member of the Working Group of Social Democratic Lawyers (ASJ) and the Social Democratic Community for Local Politics (SGK) .
