Eberhard Schmidt-Elsaeßer (born April 1, 1955 in Itzehoe ) is a German politician ( SPD ). Since June 2012 he has been State Secretary in the Ministry for Justice, Europe and Culture of Schleswig-Holstein . From 2006 to 2009 he was State Secretary in the Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of Justice, Labor and Europe, from April 2011 to June 2012 State Secretary in the Ministry of Justice and Equality of the State of Saxony-Anhalt .

biography

From 1975 to 1981 Schmidt-Elsaeßer studied law at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel , where he passed the first state examination in 1981 . He then did his doctorate at the local institute for environmental, commercial and criminal tax law. His dissertation is entitled "Medical research on children and the mentally ill - on the criminal liability of research interventions in those unable to give consent" .

After the second state examination in law in 1987, Schmidt-Elsaeßer joined the tax administration of Schleswig-Holstein in 1988. From 1990 to 1996 he worked in the economic and budget departments in the Ministry of Finance and was then head of department in the State Chancellery. In 1998 he returned to the Ministry of Finance and Energy as head of department, where he acted as permanent representative of the State Secretary from 2002. Before he was appointed State Secretary himself, he worked in the same function in the Ministry of Justice, Labor and Europe from April 2005 to June 2006.

Schmidt-Elsaeßer is married and has three children.

Schmidt-Elsaeßer is a member of the SPD. In June 2006 he succeeded Peter Nissen as State Secretary in the Ministry of Justice, Labor and Europe of the State of Schleswig-Holstein. In the course of the break in the grand coalition led by Prime Minister Peter Harry Carstensen ( CDU ) in July 2009, all SPD ministers were dismissed from their offices on July 20, 2009. In June 2012 he returned to Schleswig-Holstein after being appointed State Secretary in the Ministry of Justice, Europe and Culture by Prime Minister Torsten Albig .
