history

The ASJ has been working on target groups for the SPD since 1954 and is aimed at those interested in legal policy. The first federal meeting of the ASJ took place from October 22, 1954 to October 24, 1954 in Hanover . The conference dealt primarily with the basic questions of criminal law reform . The focus of the conference was a lecture by Adolf Arndt entitled “Legal Thought of Our Time ( Positivism and Natural Law )” . In it Arndt said: "Law and justice have become dear to us Social Democrats because we have experienced lawlessness and know that lawlessness makes you hungrier than lack of bread and thirstier than lack of water."

Well-known members of the ASJ include Adolf Arndt (1904–1974), Werner Holtfort , Erich Küchenhoff , Hans Peter Bull , Hannelore Kohl , Thomas Oppermann , Brigitte Zypries , Uwe-Dietmar Berlit and Anke Pörksen .

In April 2013, Poerksen resigned from the federal chairmanship and from her membership in the federal executive board because she had been appointed spokeswoman for the red-green state government of Lower Saxony ( Weil I cabinet ). The federal conference elected attorney Harald Baumann-Hasske from Dresden as federal chairman on October 26, 2013 in Düsseldorf .
