Working group of Jewish social democrats

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Working Group of Jewish Social Democrats (AJS) was founded in April 2007 and is a working group within the Social Democratic Party of Germany .

history

The establishment can be traced back to the initiative of the Berlin lawyer Sergey Lagodinsky . At its constituent meeting, the working group elected Sergey Lagodinsky and Peter Feldmann as the two speakers of the group.

With the establishment of the AJS, Jews organized themselves institutionally within a party in Germany for the first time since the Nazis came to power . The party leadership of the SPD expressly welcomed the establishment. The general secretary of the SPD Hubertus Heil said: “I am delighted that Jews are now also showing their institutional commitment in the SPD with the new working group. We look forward to cooperation."

Work content

Foreign policy

In contrast to some outside voices, the working group does not see itself as a lobby for Israel . Sergey Lagodinsky points out that the working group wants to be politically active in a variety of ways. You need a new, factual discussion - also with US politics , so Lagodinsky. The transatlantic position within the party is to be strengthened. The working group will stand by Israel's side in solidarity and is looking for new ways to formulate a sustainable Israel policy for Germany and the SPD. Peter Feldmann emphasizes Israel's undoubted right to exist and expects this attitude from the SPD leadership.

Domestic politics

The working group wants to support the social discourse in a positive way, but also to clearly point out unresolved problems. These include the problems of recognition of qualifications and diplomas, and the pension problems of most of the former Soviet Union immigrant Jews . The working group also takes a stand in political discourses that go beyond the reference to Jews. In a press release published in May 2007, the working group expressed its concern about resentment towards Muslims caused by the construction of mosques in Germany. Due to religious freedom, Muslims must also be entitled to the construction of religious institutions within the framework of building law.

Regional groups

In June 2008, the Berlin / Brandenburg regional group was founded within the AJS. Renée Röske and Mirko Freitag act as chairmen of the Berlin-Brandenburg regional group.

In 2010 the regional group working group Jewish Social Democrats Southwest (Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Württemberg) was founded. Vered Zur-Panzer and Abraham de Wolf act as chairmen of the regional group.
