Working group of the SPD for acceptance and equality

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The SPD Working Group for Acceptance and Equal Opportunities for short SPDqueer (formerly: Working Group of Lesbians and Gays in the SPD for short Schwusos) is the organization of the social democratically oriented LGBTI people who have organized themselves within the SPD. The organization was founded in 1978 as a working group and today has 14 regional associations. Since the SPD federal party conference in 2011, the Schwusos have been upgraded from a working group to a working group in the SPD. They are the oldest LGBTI group (lesbians, gays, bisexuals, trans and intersexuals) in the Federal Republic of Germany.

At the federal conference of the Schwusos in Leipzig on October 6th and 7th, 2012, the Hessian lawyer Ansgar Dittmar was elected federal chairman for the third time. The federal executive board also has 13 deputy chairpersons.

history

Schwusos at the Gay Pride in Stuttgart 2009

While the Schwusos' primary goal in the early years was the abolition of Section 175 of the Criminal Code , the so-called gay paragraph , they then advocated, among other things, equal treatment of civil partnerships with marriage, which was previously exclusively heterosexual in Germany (e.g. in tax law ) a. In addition, together with the SPD federal party, they called for the "opening" of marriage for homosexual couples, which was politically achieved in Germany in the summer of 2017. Further goals of the Schwusos are a special right of asylum for persecuted lesbians and gays, a joint adoption right for gay and lesbian ("same-sex") partnerships, which was politically achieved in the summer of 2017, as well as the addition of Article 3 of the Basic Law to include an anti-discrimination addition on sexual identity, to draw up a national action plan against homophobia and transphobia and to support a nationwide network of local education initiatives in schools.

The Schwusos campaigned for the erection of a memorial for the homosexual victims of National Socialism , as well as for the establishment of a foundation for research on homosexuality from a political, sociological and historical perspective. The Schwusos also support the LSVD's article three initiative , which aims to supplement the third article of the Basic Law.

On December 4, 2011, the Schwusos were upgraded to a working group with a three-vote majority at the SPD party convention in Berlin. This made a new establishment necessary, which took place in Leipzig at the beginning of October 2012. The long-time chairman of the Ansgar Dittmar working group was re-elected.

In October 2016, Petra Nowacki was elected as the successor to Ansgar Dittmar as the new chairwoman.

The name of the working group was changed to "SPDqueer - Working group for acceptance and equality". The majority of the delegates decided on this name at their national conference in Schwerin in 2016, and the party executive board approved this name change in December 2016. A change of name was discussed bitterly in advance. The previous short name “Schwusos” had been criticized as excluding lesbians and “trans *” people .
