Birgitta Wolff (born July 14, 1965 in Münster ) is a German economist , politician ( CDU ) and President of the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main since January 1, 2015 .

Life

Wolff completed an apprenticeship as a bank clerk . She then studied economics at the University of Witten / Herdecke , at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and at Harvard University . After her habilitation in Munich, she taught from 1999 to 2000 at the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. In 2000, she took over the chair for business administration and international management at Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg . In 2002 she spent a sabbatical at the Stanford Graduate School of Management . From 2008 to May 2010 she was also the dean of the Faculty of Economics.

She declined calls from Münster , Vienna , Bremen and Aachen and stayed in Magdeburg. She held visiting professorships in Ukraine , Brazil and the People's Republic of China .

Wolff's work and research focuses on personnel economics, corporate organization and international comparative studies.

On June 1, 2010, she took over as the successor to Jan-Hendrik Olbertz as Minister of Culture of the State of Saxony-Anhalt in the Böhmer II cabinet . On April 19, 2011, Wolff became State Minister for Science and Economics in the Haseloff I cabinet, and on April 19, 2013 she was dismissed by Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff due to a "disturbed relationship of trust" in connection with planned cuts at the state's universities and moved back to the Magdeburg University.

On July 15, 2014, she was elected to succeed Werner Müller-Esterl in the office of President of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , taking office on January 1, 2015. Her term of office as President expires on December 31, 2020; Enrico Schleiff was elected her successor on July 8, 2020 .

Birgitta Wolff has been a member of the ZDF Board of Directors since July 1, 2017 . She has been the Vice President of the University Rectors' Conference since 2018 . She is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Center for University Development (CHE) .
