Bergner cabinet

The Bergner cabinet served as the state government of Saxony-Anhalt from 1993 to 1994 . It was the third cabinet during the first electoral term of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt . The Gies cabinet under Prime Minister Gerd Gies (CDU) resigned in July 1991; Gies' successor Werner Münch resigned from office in November 1993. On December 2, 1993, the state parliament elected the previous CDU parliamentary group chairman, Christoph Bergner , as the new prime minister with 60 votes. The second candidate for office, the chairman of the Alliance 90 / Greens parliamentary group, Hans-Jochen Tschiche , received 17 votes. Three MPs abstained; In addition, numerous members of the state parliament, mainly from the SPD faction, did not take part in the election. 83 of 106 possible votes were cast.

Bergner continued the coalition of CDU and FDP and presented his cabinet to the state parliament on December 15, 1993. The four members of the previous government, who came from West Germany and who had come under public pressure in the wake of the “ salaries affair ”, were no longer members of the cabinet. Instead, Bergner relied on “a government with a strong link to parliament”: In addition to himself, eight of the nine ministers belonged to the state parliament; the only exception was in Lower Saxony originating Walter Remmers , of the interior and the Ministry of Justice in personal union led.

The “Ministry for Federal and European Affairs”, which became vacant after Minister Hans-Jürgen Kaesler was dismissed on December 3, 1993, was not filled again; on February 15, 1994 it was dissolved. The “Federal Affairs” division was transferred to the renamed Ministry of Justice and Federal Affairs ; responsibilities for Europe have been divided between the Ministry of Economy, Technology and Transport and the State Chancellery .

In the early election of the Landtag on June 26, 1994 , the FDP left the Landtag . The CDU and SPD did not form a grand coalition . With the meeting of the 2nd Landtag on July 21, 1994, the term of office of the cabinet ended. The next day, a minority government under Reinhard Höppner ( Höppner I cabinet ) came into being.
