Salary affair

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The salary affair concerned the German media nationwide and the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt in 1993 .

The background to the affair was that the Prime Minister of Saxony-Anhalt, Werner Münch ( CDU ), and other members of the government coming from the west are said to have "sneaked out" on excessive salaries. It was about allowances for so-called vested rights. All in all, according to a statement by the Ministry of Finance, the ministers were paid over 834,000 marks too much. Münch was accused of continuing to draw his salary in Saxony-Anhalt at the western level.

On November 28, 1993, Münch and his entire cabinet resigned. In 1998 he was acquitted of this charge.

The salary affair is also attributed to the fall of the FDP in favor of the voters in 1994.
