Georgios Tziallas ( Greek Γιωργος Τζιαλλας ; born July 14, 1987 in Ioannina , Greece ) is a Greek rower .

Career

Tziallas began rowing in 2001 and was able to take part in international title competitions six times in junior age groups from 2004 to 2009. While there were only two participations in the B final of the World Championships in the junior area in the eighth, he won four medals in the U23 area. In 2006 he achieved the silver medal in the four without a helmsman , after which he competed for three years in the U23 two without a helmsman . With Giannis Tsilis , Tziallas won the U23 championships in 2007 and 2008, with Stergios Papachristos he repeated the success in 2009.

Tziallas was also used in the open age group early on. In his first participation in the World Cup in the 2006 season in a four-man without, he only managed to qualify for the D final for 19th to 24th place. He was also used in a two-man with helmsman at the 2006 World Rowing Championships in Eton, UK , where he reached the finals. From 2007 he rowed in changing crews with his U23 two-man partners Tsilis and Papachristos in the four-man without at World and European Championships in the open age group. While there was no success with the former, Tziallas won the bronze medal in 2007 and the European title in 2008 and 2009 .

In 2010 Tziallas switched to a newly formed two-man without with Ioannis Christou . The duo harmonized well and immediately became European champions in Portugal . A bronze medal followed at the world championships . In the following year, Tziallas and Christou switched to the four-man with Stergios Papachristos and Giannis Tsilis and were also European champions in Bulgaria in this boat class and vice-world champions at the world championships in the pre-Olympic season 2011 in Bled. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, the Greek four-man with Papachristos, Tsilis, Tziallas and Christou took 4th place with a gap of around 4 seconds on the bronze rank. With the twins Nikolaos and Apostolos Gountoulas for Papachristos and Tsilis, Tziallas and Christou won another European Championship title in Varese a few weeks later .

In the new Olympic cycle, the entire Greek team took a break in the heavy belt area. In 2014 the four-man without was re-formed and now entered the race with Giannis Tsilis, Dionysios Angelopoulos , Georgios Tziallas and Ioannis Christou. At the European Championships in 2014 and 2015 , the quartet won the silver medal behind the British selection. At the world championships he finished 6th in 2014 and 9th with qualification for the Olympic Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2015 . At the 2016 Olympics , the Greek foursome finished eighth.

Tzialla's competition weight is around 90 kg with a height of 1.90 m.
