Wolfgang Rauls
Wolfgang Heinrich Rauls (born June 17, 1948 in Rohrsheim ) is a German politician ( NDPD , FDP ), former Saxony-Anhalt Minister for the Environment and Nature Conservation and former mayor of the city of Gommern .
From party member to minister
Rauls joined the NDPD in 1968 and was elected its last chairman on February 11, 1990 after a local party career.
After the NDPD joined the FDP, he was Saxony-Anhalt Minister for the Environment and Nature Conservation from 1990 to 1994 and a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt in its first and fourth electoral terms . After the resignation of European Minister Gerd Brunner in 1991, Rauls also became Deputy Prime Minister . During this time, Rauls was affected by the so-called spying affair. This issue was also the subject of a parliamentary committee of inquiry in the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt .
From 1993 to 1997 he was a member of the board of trustees of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation .
Fight for the state presidency
A few months before the 1994 state elections , Rauls tried to replace the chairman of the Free Democratic Party of Saxony-Anhalt , Peter Kunert , but failed. This was preceded by a dispute between the left-liberal state chairman, who rejected the election of Prime Minister Christoph Bergner and announced his departure from the coalition, and the parliamentary group that Christoph Bergner elected as the new Prime Minister despite the vote of the state executive. Peter Kunert, supported by Hans-Dietrich Genscher , refused a coalition statement in favor of the CDU and declared the possibility of joining a so-called traffic light coalition . To prevent this, the right- wing liberal wing of the party sent Rauls into the fight for the state chairmanship. Rauls failed, however, with 120 to 154 votes.
Again MP
After the state elections in 2002 , Rauls moved back into the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt, where he mainly devoted himself to social and sports policy.
On October 9, 2005 he was elected mayor of the city of Gommern and resigned from the state parliament on January 1, 2006. Uwe Droese became a successor in the state parliament . In 2012 Jens Hünerbein ( independent ) was elected as his successor as Mayor of Gommern.
