The Bundesverband Vereinigung Liberaler Kommunalpolitiker (VLK) is an organization in which local elected officials of the FDP have come together. It is formed from the regional associations in the federal states.

history

After there were already eight regional associations, the Federal Association of Liberal Local Politicians was founded by Helmuth Bentz and Wolfgang Knoll on July 6, 1982 in Bonn. In 2008, a celebration of the 25th anniversary took place at Bonn's Godesburg .

Structure and goals

The association represents around 12,000 liberal local politicians in Germany and has set itself the task of intensifying the exchange of ideas and experiences between local politicians. In addition, their political and legal knowledge should be improved. The federal executive committee consists of a chairman, two deputies, a treasurer, a manager and four assessors. In addition, there are (currently) three honorary chairmen, six co-opted members and seven members of co-opted state associations.

Trade journal das rathaus

The trade journal das rathaus is published to support these goals . It appeared for the first time in March 1948 as a supplement to the publication "Mitteilungen der FDP, Landesverband Nordrhein-Westfalen" and is, according to its own statements, "the oldest German specialist journal for local politics". Das rathaus has been the VLK's trade journal since 1983 . It has been published independently since spring 2017.

Local politician award Das Liberale Rathaus

The VLK, together with the magazine das rathaus, awards the local politician prize Das Liberale Rathaus (formerly: Das Gläserne Rathaus ) "for exemplary liberal actions and initiatives at the local level". The winner of the competition, along with the challenge award, will receive 1,250 euros as a grant for association work. The second and third prizes are 500 and 250 euros, respectively.

The association's documents are kept in the Archives of Liberalism of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Gummersbach .
