Wolfram Dette

Wolfram Dette (born August 15, 1951 in Weimar ) is a German local politician ( FDP ) and was Lord Mayor of the city of Wetzlar from 1997 to 2015 .

Career

The son of a doctor came to Wetzlar with his parents from the GDR in 1959 . From the second year of school he attended the Freiherr-vom-Stein-Schule . Dette was head of the Goetheschule Wetzlar and 1969/70 Hessian state school spokesman. In 1971 he graduated from the Goethe School. He studied law at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen and passed both state exams with distinction. He then worked as a research assistant at the University of Giessen.

In 1981 he was elected as city treasurer to the magistrate of the city of Wetzlar and from 1987 was also head of culture. In 1997 Dette was directly elected Lord Mayor of Wetzlar and confirmed in his office in 2003 and 2009. In 2011 he received the Hessian Order of Merit on ribbon . He announced in September 2014 that he would not stand for another term of office and will therefore leave office in November 2015 as the longest-serving and only FDP Mayor of Hesse. The SPD politician Manfred Wagner was elected as his successor in June 2015 . The handover took place on November 27, 2015. A few days later, on December 1, 2015, he received the Wilhelm Leuschner Medal from Volker Bouffier .

Dette lives in the Steindorf district .

Offices and functions

Dette is a member of the Presidium and Finance Committee of the Hessian Association of Cities and a member of the Hessian Integration Advisory Council. He was a member of the commission for the reform of the Hessian civil service law. By virtue of his office, Dette was, among other things, chairman of the supervisory board of enwag Energie- und Wassergesellschaft mbH Wetzlar and deputy chairman of the board of directors of Sparkasse Wetzlar . He is a member of the Presidium of the German section of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions . He was part of the organizing committee at the Hessentag 2012 in Wetzlar .

Party political offices and functions

Dette is chairman of the FDP Wetzlar. He is also chairman of the Association of Liberal Local Politicians Hessen eV and Chairman of the Federal Association of Liberal Local Politicians (VLK).
