Hessentag 2012

The Hessentag 2012 is the 52nd Hessentag and took place from June 1 to June 10, 2012 in Wetzlar . The over 1000 events were attended by around 1.25 million people. With the motto "cultural - lively - colorful" it was the first Hessentag in years that had no rhyming slogan. Nina Becker and Florian Köhler formed the Hessentag couple.

preparation

In May 2009, the city of Wetzlar was awarded the contract for the Hessentag 2012. In the following period, as in the other Hessentag cities, investment measures were also implemented in the city's infrastructure in preparation for the Hessentag . In Wetzlar, various sponsors were responsible for the construction of a new bridge over the Lahn , the renovation of the train station , the new construction of the bus station and the construction of new park and ride parking spaces for commuters and visitors.

The measures are estimated at 22 million euros. The city contributes 8 million, the state of Hesse 9.5 million and Deutsche Bahn 3 million. The Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund bears the remaining costs .

Events

At the opening on June 1, Elton John performed in front of more than 12,000 concertgoers. During the national festival, visitors were offered over 1,000 program items. At the end of Hessentag, more than 3,600 participants marched through Wetzlar on the traditional Hessentag parade on Sunday. 172 foot groups and 77 motif floats from all over the country took part in the 11-kilometer pageant, among them music and traditional costume groups.

Numbers and dates

More than 4,000 mostly voluntary Hessentag helpers made the 52nd "Festival of Hesse" possible. Around 110,000 visitors experienced the joint program of the churches at the Hessentag. For the first time in the history of the state festival, the Protestant churches in Hesse and the Catholic diocese of Limburg invited to a total of 80 church services, prayer times, concerts and more in the cathedral, Himmelskirche (hospital church) and on the heavenly stairs over ten days.

Around 250,000 visitors came to more than 60 Hessischer Rundfunk events in Wetzlar. The main attraction for ten days was traditionally the hr meeting at the ferris wheel. The events of Hit Radio FFH were attended by over 100,000 guests.

criticism

Those responsible expected around one million visitors, 1.2 million actually visited the Hessentag. According to the mayor Wolfram Dette (FDP), the Hessentag was able to increase its image. However, Dette was criticized for his commitment to the Hessentag, as the event was too big and too expensive for Wetzlar. The exact numbers were officially announced on December 12, 2012. The financial outlay for the city of Wetzlar was 4.8 million euros (4.3 million euros were planned). Around 9.5 million euros in expenses for the implementation of the Hessentag (planned 10 million euros) contrasted with 9 million euros in income from events.
