The Kategoria e Pare 1965/66 (mutatis mutandis: First League ) was the 28th staging of the Albanian football championship and was the National Football Association Federata Shqiptare e Futbollit aligned.

Season course

As in the previous season, the league consisted of twelve teams. 1964/65 Ylli i Kuq Pogradec was relegated from the category e Parë, for the new season, the KF Erzeni Shijak rose again after several years of abstinence in the first division. The defending champion was 17 Nëntori Tirana .

The championship was played in a regular season with a round trip. Each team competed twice against each other team. The bottom of the table was relegated to the then still second-rate category e dytë . The champions moved into the European championship this season, but did not compete there after the Albanian teams had been eliminated in the preliminary round.

A total of 316 goals were scored, which corresponds to an average of 2.4 goals per game. The top scorer with 13 goals was Saimir Dauti of KS Dinamo Tirana .

After the end of the season, defending champions 17 Nëntori Tirana and record champions Partizani Tirana were tied at the top, and because the direct comparison also ended in a draw, a playoff for the title was scheduled, which 17 Nëntori could win. Already seven points behind the championship leaders, Dinamo Tirana finished third for the second time in a row. Vllaznia Shkodra came in fourth, just ahead of Labinoti Elbasan . Vllaznia was eighth the previous season, Elbasan only tenth. Lokomotiva Durrës took fifth place ahead of Besa Kavaja and Skënderbeu Korça with the same number of points . In the relegation battle Flamurtari Vlora , Tomori Berat and Traktori Lushnja were able to save themselves . Thus, promoted Erzeni Shijak had to go straight back down to the second class.

Decision game for the championship

After the end of the regular season, the first 17 Nëntori Tirana and Partizani Tirana , with the same points, played the title in Tirana. 17 Nëntori kept the upper hand 2-1 and won the eighth championship in the club's history, the second in a row. Partizani, however, remained for the second time in a row only the runner-up title.
