Shijak ( Albanian  also  Shijaku , Turkish Şayak ) is a small town with around 7500 inhabitants in central Albania in the Qark Durrës . The place is between Durrës and Tirana , around eleven kilometers from the port city and 25 kilometers from the capital. Main road, highway and railroad circumnavigate the place north in a wide arc, because east of Shijak there is a small range of hills. The city itself lies on the eastern bank of the Erzen , which meanders from south to north towards the sea.

In 2015, the Bashkia of Shijak was united with the neighboring communities of Gjepalaj (3449 inhabitants), Maminas (4463 inhabitants) and Xhafzotaj (12,381 inhabitants) to form the municipality of Shijak . Shijak previously had 7568 inhabitants (2011)

At the same time, many rural refugees came to the region from mountainous areas in Albania. Today Shijak benefits from its location between the metropolitan areas of Tirana and Durrës, in the vicinity of which several factories and numerous smaller production companies have sprung up.
