Xhafzotaj is a place in western Albania in the municipality of Shijak in Durrës Qark . The village is located a few kilometers east of Durrës , only separated from the town of Shijak by the river Erzen . The area around Xhafzotaj in the coastal plain is very flat. It is around seven kilometers to the Adriatic Sea .
Until 2015, Xhafzotaj was an independent municipality ( komuna ) . In 2011 the population was 12,381. The villages of Sallmonaj , Rreth , Pjezga and Hardishta also belonged to the municipality . The two places Xhafzotaj and Sallmonaj together have more inhabitants than the main town Shijak.
The main road from Durrës to Tirana used to cross the town. Today the traffic is mainly on the motorway , which bypasses the town to the northwest. As everywhere in the greater Tirana – Durrës area, many small businesses and factories have now settled in the once heavily agricultural area.
To the south of Xhafzotaj there are shortwave broadcasting systems from Radio Tirana on the former municipal area . At 130 meters, the highest transmission mast is the tallest structure in Albania. The medium wave -Sendeanlagen of Flakka lie to the northwest of the former municipal area.
