The Hessentag 2010 was the 50th Hessentag and took place from May 28th to June 6th 2010 in Stadtallendorf under the motto In the green is the young city that really has something to celebrate! instead of. With almost 1.1 million visitors, it was one of the three best-attended Hesse days.

background

Since 1960, the Hessentage, initiated by the state government and carried out jointly with the respective municipality, has been taking place in different locations in Hesse . These are major events that attract national attention, have a budget of millions and each attract many hundreds of thousands of visitors. As a rule, such an event is in deficit for a municipality, on the other hand, the event contributes to the awareness of the respective city and to the promotion of sometimes considerable investments by various providers in the infrastructure.

The 50th anniversary Hessentag was actually supposed to take place in neighboring Alsfeld , as the first Hessentag in 1961 and the 25th in 1985 had also taken place in Alsfeld. Alsfeld gave back the alignment for financial reasons.

The event's deficit, which the city had to bear, amounted to 5.9 million euros.

Preparations for the Hessentag

The Hessentag area ran through the city center on both sides of the train station in Stadtallendorf, on the one hand through Waldstrasse to the large marquee in the Herrenwaldstadion, on the other hand through the city center via the town hall and city hall to the large car park in the Nordost industrial area. The construction measures relevant for the Hessentag included the development of the north-east industrial area by creating access roads and paving paths, the renovation of the station and the redesign of the Heinz Lang Park and the church square in front of the city church, with the station and city church being given barrier-free access. A small construction measure was the barrier-free expansion of the street "Am Bärenbach", which had a few steps in the section used as a footpath.

In addition to musical events, the Hessentagsstrasse is one of the attractions of the Hessentag. Authorities, administrations, institutions or companies introduce themselves, fair stands and rides were represented in Stadtallendorf. The extensive state exhibition was on the new fairground on Herrenwaldstrasse and in parts of the Herrenwaldstadion. The Heinz-Lang-Park housed “nature on the trail”. The Herrenwaldhalle was used as the "Hessen Palace" for large hall events, and with additional stands there was space for 3,200 spectators.

The Stadtallendorfer Stadtkirche was redesigned for the Hessentag to the Wasserkirche. Ten days were needed to set up the complex interior installation. As with other themed churches, the installation was not dismantled after the Hessentag, but remained until a church jubilee in September 2010.

traffic

Crowds of visitors at the train station

Because Stadtallendorf does not have its own motorway connection, the organizers recommended traveling by train in advance. The Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund used special trains and shuttle buses connected the city districts with the city center free of charge. The offer was accepted much better than expected. On Corpus Christi Day alone, RMV press spokesman Peter E. Vollmer reported that there were almost 50,000 people entering and leaving Stadtallendorf. According to the RMV estimate, a total of around 300,000 people traveled by bus and train to the Hessentag. IC trains on line 26 stopped in Stadtallendorf for the time of the state festival.

Hessentag couple

Hessentag couple 2010

The Hessentag couple has the task of representing the Hessentag and making it known in advance of the event. In December 2008, the Stadtallendorfer Mona Lorena Monzien and Fabian Gies were selected by a committee consisting of the magistrate and the council of elders of the organizing city. Stadtallendorf decided on one of the hitherto youngest Hessentag couples, since these - from 1980 - are no longer provided by children or young people. At the national festival, Fabian and Mona Lorena were 23 and 20 years old. Previously only the Dietzenbacher Hessentag couple aged 20 and 21 were younger. In Bad Arolsen, the Hessentag couple were 22 and 25 years old.
