The Hessentag 1980 was the 20th Hessentag and took place from June 21 to 29, 1980 in the small town of Grünberg in central Hesse .

The Hessentag was opened by Prime Minister Holger Börner (SPD) and Mayor Siegbert Damaschke (CDU). With Dorothea Hanisch and Erich Frank, for the first time no children or young people were selected as the Hessentag couple.

In addition to the pageant, the program included a. an exhibition "Nursing and Poor Care in Hesse. Documents from Eight Centuries", the presentation of Hessian dialects by the Research Institute for the German Language in Marburg, a Hessian folklore evening with traditional costumes and music groups, a hands-on theater, an exhibition by South America researcher Theo Koch , a police dog demonstration, a children's party and an afternoon for senior citizens with the big band of the Hessian police orchestra. A total of around 275,000 visitors were counted over the 9 days.
