The Hessentag 2017 was the 57th Hessentag and took place from June 9th to 18th, 2017 in Rüsselsheim am Main . The motto of the Hessentag was "MAIN Rüsselsheim, OUR Hessen". A total of around 1.4 million visitors came to the events. The highlights included singers and bands such as Silbermond , Andreas Bourani , Scorpions , Kings of Leon , David Garrett , Peter Maffay and Zucchero .

Since 1961, the Hessentage, initiated by the state government and carried out jointly with the respective municipality, has been taking place in different locations in Hesse. Over a period of ten days, the country presents itself to visitors with cultural presentations and exhibitions. Large open-air concerts with the participation of well-known national and international artists also take place on the occasion of the Hessentage . The Hessian state festival is a nationally recognized and important major event that attracts many hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.

In January 2015, the Hessian Prime Minister Volker Bouffier announced, together with the Minister of State Axel Wintermeyer , that the Hessentag 2017 would take place in Rüsselsheim am Main. On June 9, 2017, it was officially opened by Prime Minister Volker Bouffier together with Lord Mayor Patrick Burghardt , City Councilor Jens Grode, District Administrator of the Groß-Gerau District Thomas Will and the Hessentag couple Selma Kücükyavuz and Marcel Sedlmayer.

For the Hessentag 2017, the market square and peace square were renewed with grants from the state of Hesse of 6.5 million euros for around 10 million euros. Parts of the Main foreland and the Löwenstrasse were also renewed. For information, the Hessentag office was opened for the first time on April 24th for a “trial day”. The citizens were also informed about the planning and traffic situation of the Hessentag 2017 in several citizens' meetings.

On May 29, 2017, the city center was closed to construction work. 1,500 events were presented on May 23, 2017. The train station has also been upgraded and additional accesses to platform 2 have been created via bridges over platform 3.

Mugs were purchased especially for the Hessentag, which could be refilled at most of the stands.

For safety reasons, glass, weapons and drones as well as backpacks, large bags and selfie sticks were banned from major Hessentag events.

The Hessentag couple formed Selma Kücükyavuz and Marcel Sedlmayer. They were chosen by a jury in November 2015 and presented on November 17th.

Most of the Hessentag was held in the north of the city. The events and exhibitions, which traditionally recur every year, were distributed as follows:

  • The Hessentagsstrasse led mainly through Frankfurter Strasse and Mainzer Strasse via Marktplatz and Friedensplatz and was about 3.1 kilometers long. Smaller branches enabled a short way to the train station and Main foreland.
  • On the Hessentagsufer on the Main foreland was the exhibition of the Bundeswehr (second largest exhibition), the hr-Treff , the HVT tent Trachtenland Hessen , the Federal Police , the exhibition The Nature on the Trail and many smaller events, for example in the fortress or the Opel -Villas .
