Hessentag 2018

The Hessentag 2018 was the 58th Hessentag and took place from May 25th to June 3rd, 2018 in Korbach . The Hanseatic city was after 1997 the Hessian festival for the second time host. A total of around 845,000 visitors came to the events. The highlights included musicians and bands such as Sunrise Avenue , Adel Tawil , Revolverheld , Culcha Candela , Cro and Alle Farben .

Since 1961, the Hessentage, initiated by the state government and carried out jointly with the respective municipality, has been taking place in different locations in Hesse. Over a period of ten days, the country presents itself to visitors with cultural presentations and exhibitions. Large open-air concerts with the participation of well-known national and international artists also take place on the occasion of the Hessentage . The Hessian state festival is a nationally recognized and important major event that attracts many hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.

Korbach tried to organize the previous year's editions, especially in 2013 when Vellmar canceled his Hessentag. After Bad Hersfeld postponed its application to 2019, Korbach was the only applicant for 2018 and was accepted by the Hessian Prime Minister Volker Bouffier in February 2016 . The costs amounted to € 11.2 million, of which € 2.8 million had to be borne by the city itself. The state provided € 2.5 million directly for the festival. Associated with this were grants from the state in the millions for infrastructural construction projects. The train station and the pedestrian zone were renewed for over € 10 million. The town hall is also to be rebuilt after the festival.

Logo, motto & Hessentag couple

Mayor Klaus Friedrich and State Minister Axel Wintermeyer presented the logo on April 20, 2017. It shows the silhouette of the city of Korbach consisting of u. a. Kilian's Church, Nikolaikirche and City Hall. The associated motto is: “ Sympathetic. Colorful. Spot on! ". It thus ties in with the city's motto “ Korbach - gold right ”. The largest gold deposit in Germany is located in Korbach and one can look back on a centuries-long tradition in gold mining.

The Hessentag couple formed "Goldmarie" Lisa-Marie Fritzsche and "Hansekaufmann" Lukas Goos. As Goldmarie, she also represents the city on other official occasions and in the media. The Hansekaufmann was identified through an application process specifically for the Hessentag.

Events & Venues

The Hessentagsstraße extended over 2.4 km. Beginning on the outskirts behind the district building were the marquee, the state exhibition as well as the grounds of the Bundeswehr , Federal Police and the exhibition "On the trail of nature". The " Continental Arena" was located on the Hauer, the large car park for the local football stadium . It served as the venue for the biggest concerts such as " FFH -Just 90's!" with 15,000 visitors. The wine village was in the city park, the hr tent in the avenue . In between, a ferris wheel marked the second end of Hessentagsstrasse.

The access roads were blocked by concrete barriers.

The "Just White" party, which has been held annually since 2011, did not take place for the first time. The reason given was financial concerns.

The teachers' union GEW caused a scandal. She wrote to Hessian schools and asked them to forego class trips to the Bundeswehr exhibition on Hessentag. The Bundeswehr has invited school classes to drive them to the Hessentag at their own expense. More than 50 schools accepted this invitation.
