Giovanni Domenico Sala

Giovanni Domenico Sala (* 1579 in Padua ; † March 1, 1644 ibid) was an Italian doctor and university professor.

Life

Sala was Professor of Theory of Medicine at the University of Padua from 1607 until his death . Here he was among others the teacher of Thomas Bartholin and Thomas Browne .

His textbook on medical methodology, Ars medica ( Medical Art ), first published in 1614, saw several editions. In 1628 he published Prolegomena on the nature of medicine, which he dedicated to the Danish doctor Johan Rode / Rhode.

Also in 1628 was his early nutritional work De alimentis ( About food ), a kind of natural history of food, combined with recipes and tips for a healthy diet.
