Celtic Woman is an Irish musical group consisting of three singers and one violinist . The group was founded in 2004 by Sharon Browne and David Downes , former musical director of the Irish dance show Riverdance - The Show . The repertoire of the group includes songs of Celtic tradition arranged on the group , pieces of classical European music in the broader sense, as well as titles known from musicals and pop and rock music . The group has toured the world several times and sold more than six million records worldwide.
history
The group first performed on September 15, 2004 at the sold out The Helix in Dublin . The show was organized by producer Sharon Browne, chairman and CEO Dave Kavanagh, producer and director Avril MacRory, and music director and composer David Downes. The show ran there until 2006. In March 2005, the show was aired by PBS in the United States. In the weeks that followed, their debut album reached # 1 on Billboard's World Music Charts, where it stayed for 81 weeks. On July 22nd, 2006, they broke the long-term album record of 68 weeks previously held by Andrea Bocelli . On her Asia and America tours, the show was announced with the subtitle Riverdance for the Voice .
On August 23, 2006, the second show, Celtic Woman: A New Journey, first performed at Slane Castle, County Meath , Ireland , and recorded for PBS, which aired in December 2006. In both shows the group was accompanied by The Irish Film Orchestra and the Aontas Choral Group under the direction of David Downes. The studio versions were conducted by John Page. On 25 December 2006, in was Chemnitz recorded ARD - Christmas show of folk music broadcast in the Celtic Woman first appeared on German television. The release of her second studio album Celtic Woman: A Christmas Celebration on October 19, 2006 pushed her first album to number 2 on the World Music Charts. Her third studio album was released on January 30, 2007 under the title Celtic Woman: A New Journey . The album immediately reached number 4 on the Billboard 200 and number 1 on the Billboard World Music Charts. The two previous albums slipped to number 2 and 3, so the group held positions 1 to 3.
In 2007 Celtic Woman won the EBBA Award . Her fourth album, Celtic Woman: The Greatest Journey , was released on October 28, 2008, and the fifth album, Celtic Woman: Songs from the Heart, followed on January 26, 2010. In July 2010, it reached number 48 on the ARIA Top 50 Albums Chart . In 2011 the group released their sixth album, Lullaby , which reached number 1 on the World Charts and number 3 on the Children's Charts. A DVD entitled Believe was recorded on September 6th and 7th, 2011 at the Fox Theater in Atlanta . The concert was broadcast on television on December 3, 2011. On October 9, 2012, the group released their second Christmas album Home for Christmas . All productions are published by EMI .
