Tara McNeill

Tara McNeill [ ˈtɑɹə məkˈniːl ] (* in Antrim , Northern Ireland ) is an Irish violinist , harpist , and soprano singer and member of the group Celtic Woman .

Life

McNeill comes from a musical family and all of the siblings play a musical instrument. McNeill's talent was discovered at St. Joseph's Primary School in Antrim and she began taking singing lessons at an early age. She learned to play the piano at the age of seven and to play the violin at the age of eight.

McNeill was a member of the North Eastern Education and Library Board (NEELB) Youth Orchestra Ulster, with which she performed for seven years. At the age of 17 she took over the leadership of the NEELB senior orchestra.

At the Royal Irish Academy of Music , where she was taught by Michael D'Arcy, she received a Bachelor of Arts in Music Teaching and Performance with a major in violin. In June 2009 she graduated with excellent results and achieved the best grades of her year.

McNeill plays a Roger Hansell violin.

Musical career

McNeill went on tour with the Irish choral ensemble Anúna as solo violinist and from 2010 to 2014 as a singer. In the Anúna album Illumination , which was released in 2012, she plays the solo violin. In the meantime, she performed at the Irish premiere of Finzi's Violin Concerto at the National Concert Hall, Dublin, Ireland in April 2013. In 2014, McNeill starred in the Ireland Calling show as a violinist, harpist and singer, which performed in Copenhagen, Denmark and Dublin, Ireland.

Celtic woman

In August 2015, McNeill performed for the first time as a harpist with the orchestra of the Irish women's group Celtic Woman , which was released on DVD and on PBS TV and was recorded in the Round Room in the Mansion House in Dublin, Ireland. On August 7, 2016, she announced that she would succeed Máiréad Nesbitt at Celtic Woman, who was leaving the group to take care of her solo projects. A day later she started recording her debut album. McNeill and Máiréad Carlin are the only members of the Celtic Woman group to come from Northern Ireland.

On August 15, 2016, McNeill began studio recording with Celtic Woman for the next album, which was released in November 2016. Her first live concert with Celtic Woman was on September 16, 2016 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

More career highlights

McNeill has made several guest tours through many countries and has performed with artists such as Barry Douglas , Bono , Il Divo , Julie Feeney , Josh Groban , and Damien Rice in renowned concert halls, including Carnegie Hall , the Oriental Arts Center , and the National Center for Performing Arts in China.

Before joining the group Celtic Woman, McNeill taught violin at Mount Anville Junior School, Dublin, where she taught about 50 students.
