Deirdre Shannon

Deirdre Gilsenan (born July 19, 1970 in County Meath , Ireland ) is an Irish singer who sang Celtic music with various groups such as Anúna , Celtic Tenors and Celtic Woman . She is better known by her stage name Deirdre Shannon .

Shannon was born the middle of five siblings. Her interest in music arose very early on through her parents and siblings. At the age of nine she began to learn to play the piano. She and her siblings sang in church, at local celebrations such as weddings and funerals, and at concerts.

In 1992 Shannon began studying at the College of Music Dublin under the guidance of vocal coach Mary Brennan. She participated in several music activities and traveled with the Dublin Institute of Technology Choir.

Shannon began her professional career in 1996 when she became a member of the Irish Choir Anúna .

In 1997 Shannon was chosen by Michael Flatley to sing Lord of the Dance on his world tour . She had the role of Erin the Goddess and sang on over 800 shows over the four years that the group toured North and South America.

Since her debut, Shannon has sung with actors and artists such as Eily O'Grady, Dionne Warwick , Celtic Tenors , Air Supply and Celtic Woman . Shannon also worked on the soundtrack of RTÉ's historic TV documentary The Island . She has also appeared on television shows such as CBS Morning News, Fox Morning TV, and The Late Late Show .

On October 1, 2006, she released her solo album Deirdre Shannon . She also sings on the album Celtic Woman: The Greatest Journey . Shannon also sings "Harry's Game" and other songs on the CD and DVD Storm by Celtic Thunder , which was released on September 20, 2011.
