Lisa Ann Kelly ( Irish Laoise Ní Cheallaigh , born May 7, 1977 in Dublin , Ireland ) is an Irish singer of classical and Celtic music. She was part of several musical and theater productions and is a founding member of the group Celtic Woman .

Earlier years

Kelly belongs to a musical family. Her parents and sisters are also singers. At the age of seven, she began singing in the musical version of Bugsy Malone . Her parents advised her to study acting with piano and singing.

Music career

Kelly played roles in several musicals, namely "Velma Kelly" in Chicago , "Florence" in Chess , "Laurey" in Oklahoma! , "Maria" in West Side Story and "Sandy" in Grease .

She also had concerts in the National Concert Hall in Dublin; including The Magic of Gershwin , The Music of Cole Porter and From Romberg to Rodgers . She has received several national awards for singing and acting.

Riverdance

After working in the computer industry, she returned to the theater and starred in the Christmas pantomime " Jack and the Beanstalk " at the Gaiety Theater . This earned her a casting for the American production of Riverdance as the lead female vocalist in 2000, which she won. Kelly toured with Riverdance for five years and was one of the Riverdance singers who sang 'Cloudsong' at the 2003 Special Olympics opening ceremony. During the tour, she met the Australian dancer Scott Porter, whom she later married. During this time she also met the singer Lynn Hilary , who in 2007 took the place of Méav Ní Mhaolchatha in the group Celtic Woman.

Solo album

In 2002 Kelly was asked by director David Downes if she would record a solo album. She agreed. Her debut album Lisa was released in 2003 by the Celtic Collections label.

Celtic woman

In 2004, Downes approached Kelly again and asked her if she wanted to be part of Celtic Woman . Actually, only one appearance was planned at the Helix Theater in Dublin. Since then the group has released several albums and DVDs of their world tours.

She agreed and said, "I wasn't doing anything else that day." She didn't know about the other artists she was going to perform with, but Kelly stated that the show was blessed with the singers the producers had chosen be. She toured with Celtic Woman and sang on most CDs and DVDs.

She sings the tracks "Send Me a Song" and "The Blessing" on the CD and DVD A New Journey as well as on the tour. Both were composed by David Downes and accompanied on the piano. Another song is "Green the Whole Year Round", which is on the Christmas Celebration DVD and Greatest Journey CD and DVD. Kelly also sings "The Voice" in A New Journey , which was originally sung by Méav Ní Mhaolchatha and the violinist Máiréad Nesbitt . "The Voice" is by Irish author and composer Brendan Graham . She also sings "May It Be", originally from The Lord of the Rings: The Companions, as well as "Caledonia" in A New Journey and Sting's " Fields of Gold " during the Isle of Hope and Songs From the Heart tours. Kelly also sings " The Moon's a Harsh Mistress " on Songs From the Heart , accompanied by Máiréad Nesbitt on violin.

In 2009 Lisa Kelly worked on the theme song If You Believe from the Disney film Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure . She did this together with the violinist Máiréad Nesbitt , the music director and composer David Downes , and the singer Méav Ní Mhaolchatha .

In December 2011, Kelly announced that she would not be participating in the Believe Tour 2012 due to her pregnancy. She was represented by Susan McFadden , the younger sister of Brian McFadden . She only wanted to take a short break, but in January 2013 she announced that she was leaving Celtic Woman and moving to Peachtree City to open her academy, The Lisa Kelly Voice Academy . She runs the new academy for singing together with her husband Scott Porter, the managing director of Celtic Woman Ltd. was.

Private life

Kelly has been married to Australian dancer Scott Porter since 2004. They have four children: son Cian (born November 24, 2002), Jack (born August 12, 2004), Harry (born June 12, 2012) and daughter Ellie (born March 5, 2008). They accompany them on tour when they are not in school. Kelly's sister Helen sang in the choir for Celtic Woman.
