Chloë Alexandra Adele Emily Agnew (born June 9, 1989 in Knocklyon , County Dublin , Ireland ) is an Irish singer and the youngest (former) member of the group Celtic Woman . She lived in Knocklyon, County Dublin with her mother Adele "Twink" King and her younger sister Naomi. She sings in English, Irish, Latin, Italian and German.

Early years

Agnew was born as the daughter of Irish singer Adele "Twink" King and Irish oboist David Agnew. Her first television appearance was on her mother's show when she was four weeks old. She sang live for the first time at the age of six. She attended Notre Dame des Missions Junior School and then Alexandra College Girls' School .

In 1998 Agnew was sent to represent Ireland for the Grand Prix First International Children's Song Competition in Cairo with the song The Friendship Tree , which she also won. She played pantomime at the Olympia Theater Dublin for four years .

In 1999, she starred in The Young Messiah ( The Young Messiah ), a modern version of Handel's Messiah . In this production she played the role of a child communicating in sign language.

Music career

In 2000, at the age of eleven, she was invited by director David Downes to record a benefit song for children in Afghanistan. With his support, she recorded Angel of Mercy for the album This Holy Christmas Night , which raised over £ 20,000 for the Afghan Children's Charity Fund in 2001. In the same year she attended the Christ Church Cathedral girls' choir, to which she belonged for three years.

In 2002 she signed a contract with Celtic Collections, with the support of Downes she recorded her debut album Chloë . In 2004 she released her second album Chloë: Walking in the Air . She also recorded a DVD for her second album. This was published in Europe in 2004 and in North America in 2007. In 2004 she joined the group Celtic Woman and performed at the Helix concert in Dublin . In January 2013 she had released eight albums with the group and completed several world tours.

As part of the Celtic Woman North America tour in 2009, Agnew was invited by tenor Alessandro Rinella to record an album with him.

In an interview with BeliefNet.com, Agnew said of Irish music:

“Irish music was brought into us from the day we are born. Looking back to our ancestors and our heritage, it was always in our culture. Even through the hardest of times Irish people always turned to music. They have a song for everything - for drinking, for depression, for famine. I remember a song growing up that was for milking the cows. "
