Olympia Theater Dublin
The Olympia Theater is a concert venue on Dame Street, one of the main thoroughfares in Dublin .
history
The concert hall, built in 1879, was originally called the Star of Erin Music Hall . Two years later, in 1881, it was renamed Dan Lowrey's Music Hall . As early as 1889 there was a new name for the building with Dan Lowrey's Palace of Varieties . From February to November 1897 the building had closed for renovation and remodeling work and then opened as the Empire Palace Theater . After all, the concert hall was named The Olympia Theater . The concerts ran successfully for many years until it finally had to close in November 1974 due to structural damage. During the production of West Side Story , parts of the stage portal and the ceiling collapsed. After the local council and the owner ruled out the demolition of the building, a fund financed the renovation. The city council then placed the building under monument protection . The theater was restored and renovated so that it could reopen on March 14, 1977.
In November 2004 a truck drove into the front of the Olympia Theater. The building was damaged in the process.
