Friendly Fires is a three-piece British pop band. It was founded in 2006 in St Albans (Hertfordshire). The name of the band is derived from the first track of the album Always Now by the British new wave band Section 25 . Her musical style moves in the genres of indie pop , electronica and shoegazing . According to his own statement, he is strongly influenced by the music of the German techno label Kompakt , Carl Craig and Prince .

Band history

The members of Friendly Fires got to know each other during their school days in St Albans. At the age of 14, they formed their first band, which existed until they began their studies. During this time, Ed Macfarlane, the band's lead singer, released solo recordings on the electronic music labels Skam Records and Precinct Recordings .

After leaving university, the three musicians - inspired by dance music and the lush melodies of shoegazing - re-formed as Friendly Fires . At the end of 2007 they were presented as the first band without a record deal on the British television channel Channel 4's transmission . After they were signed by the record label XL Recordings , the debut single Paris came out in December 2007 . They voted the editors of the Guardian and the New Musical Express for Single of the Week .

A tour of the United Kingdom and mainland Europe followed in spring 2008. Her song On Board was featured in a TV commercial for Nintendo's computer game Wii Fit in North America . It was also used in a trailer for the video game Gran Turismo 5 .

On September 1, 2008, the band's debut album of the same name was released. Skeleton Boy and Kiss Of Life were released as further singles .

On May 16, 2011, the band's second album, Pala , was released with the singles Live Those Days Tonight and Hawaiian Air .

At the end of 2012, Friendly Fires featured the songs Hawaiian Air and Hurting in the soundtrack for the video game Forza Horizon .
