Passion Pit is an American electropop band from Cambridge , Massachusetts near Boston .

Career

At the beginning of Passion Pit there was a self-produced EP by Michael Angelakos, which should really only be a present for his girlfriend. The songs on it were so well received by his friends that it turned into a serious band project. After a few appearances with accompanying musicians, he was also booked for the opening act of well-known musicians such as Death Cab for Cutie and in 2008 the Frenchkiss label signed the now five-piece band. In the same year they had their first notable success with the EP song Sleepyhead : It reached number 9 on the US Heatseekers charts. It was also used in the 2009 British TV drama Skins .

The Manners debut album was announced for 2009 and the BBC nominated Passion Pit for their Sound of 2009 forecast , which predicted their breakthrough for the coming year. However, the album could not meet expectations and reached positions below number 50 in the USA and Great Britain. The two singles The Reeling and Little Secrets placed around number 40 in the alternative charts.

The second album Gossamer was placed in the top 5 of the Billboard 200 in August 2012 , the single Take a Walk , number 84 in the US Top 100, was awarded a gold record and was ranked third of the 50 best by Rolling Stone Songs chosen in 2012. Subsequent publications could not repeat the success. In early 2018 Passion Pit was on a tour of North America to promote their fourth album Tremendous Sea of Love (2017).

Singer Michael Angelakos has suffered from bipolar disorder since his youth, due to which concerts and performances had to be canceled in the past, and Angelakos was temporarily in inpatient treatment. After separating from his wife Kristina Mucci in 2015, he came out as homosexual.
