Ryan Sheridan (* 28. January 1982 ) is an out of the County Monaghan originating Irish singer , songwriter and guitarist .

Life

youth

Sheridan began playing the violin at the age of seven and played Irish traditional music with the Comhaltas for several years .

At the age of 16 he left Ireland to join Riverdance as a dancer . Sheridan toured the United States for four years with the company and then spent two years as an actor at the Gershwin Theater on Broadway .

While in New York, he began writing music and playing the guitar. In 2004 he moved to Glasgow , where he founded the rock band Shiversaint. Two years later, Sheridan returned to Ireland and met the Polish percussionist and cajón player Artur Graczyk, who joined the band.

After the band split up, Sheridan stayed away from music for two years, running an event venue in his hometown of Monaghan .

Career

Sheridan and Graczyk were discovered by their future manager Brian Whitehead in Dublin on 2010 when Whitehead heard the two play a cover version of the Mumford & Sons song Little Lion Man on Grafton Street . Whitehead entered Sheridan's Song Machine in the SupaJam competition, in which the winner could win an appearance at the Festival Internacional de Benicàssim in Spain. In the end, Machine prevailed against 3226 other participants. On July 17th, he performed on the Eastpack FIB Club Stage.

As a result of a showcase at The Academy in Dublin , Sheridan received a recording contract with Rubyworks Records. The first single Jigsaw (2010) was produced by Billy Farrell (including Westlife , The Corrs ) and was successful on Irish radio and iTunes . In December 2010 Sheridan played his first headlining tour in Ireland. He also appeared on the RTÉ Two television show Other Voices .

Ryan Sheridan's debut album The Day You Live Forever was released on May 6, 2011. All songs on the album were composed by Sheridan. It includes the singles Jigsaw and The Dreamer . The album went straight to number 2 on the Irish album charts and reached a gold record in Ireland for 7,500 records sold. The song Take It All Back from this album was later used in the first episode of the fourth season of the RTÉ One series Raw . The song The Dreamer was found on the soundtrack of the Irish feature film The Hardy Bucks Movie in 2013 .

On May 22, 2011, Sheridan performed at a concert for US President Barack Obama at College Green in Dublin. With two appearances on September 17, 2011, Sheridan became the first artist to play at Croke Park and Aviva Stadium on the same day . A day later, on September 18, he also played two songs at the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship final at Croke Park. The concert on November 5th 2011 at The Academy was his biggest concert in Dublin to date. The singer-songwriter Sara Lou and Consumer Love Affair appeared as supporting acts with a guest appearance by the crowded house bassist Nick Seymour and the guitarist Tomas Cosinski. In the middle of the performance, Artur Graczyk switched from the cajon to the drums, and bassist Neil Dorrington expanded the band for the rest of the concert.

At the end of 2011 Sheridan released a Christmas EP with four songs under the title Walking in the Air . The proceeds from the sale went to the Irish Make-A-Wish Foundation , for which Sheridan is an ambassador. At Christmas the single was in the top 10 of the Irish singles chart.

At the beginning of 2012, guitarist Nicky Brennan joined Sheridan's band. In March, Sheridan performed in RTÉ format Bród Club with a "Gaelic" version of The Day You Live Forever .

At the sold-out concert on April 20, 2012 at the Olympia Theater in Dublin, Sheridan was awarded platinum for more than 15,000 copies of his album The Day You Live Forever sold in Ireland . On July 15th, Sheridan played his first concert in London at the Hard Rock Calling Festival in Hyde Park .

In 2012 Sheridan signed an international record deal with Universal Music Germany .

In 2013 Sheridan accompanied Rea Garvey on his Can't Stand the Silence - The Encore tour. Then he was able to place himself in the German charts with his debut album and the debut song Jigsaw . Day You Live Forever continued in February and March 2014 . After the tour, bassist Sean Brennan left the band and was replaced by Darren Sweeney. In April 2014, Sheridan and his band played as part of the Bahrain Irish Festival in Bahrain and returned to Germany on April 26th to play with a 75-piece orchestra for 6000 guests at Pop meets Classic in Braunschweig.

Sheridan's second studio album, Here And Now, was released in 2015 and reached the top of the Irish album charts. The Here And Now Tour took Sheridan to Germany for 16 days in 2015.

In 2018 Sheridan accompanied Rea Garvey on his NEON tour. At the same time he released the digital EP Ryan Sheridan . In 2019 Ryan Sheridan went on a solo tour in Germany in the spring and autumn. He announced another tour of Germany for autumn 2020.
