The John Butler Trio is a music trio named after lead singer and lead guitarist John Butler.
history
John Butler was born on April 1, 1975 in Torrance , California . After his family lived in LA for a while, they moved back to his father's Australian homeland in 1986. From then on the family lived in Pinjarra , a small village in western Australia. John Butler currently lives in two homes outside of Byron Bay and Melbourne with his wife Daniella and two children. After John Butler had dropped out of his art studies, he was initially active as a street musician . In 1998 he founded the John Butler Trio, which from then on appeared with a changing line-up. In 2003 Shannon Birchall (bassist, Melbourne) and Michael Barker (drummer, New Zealand) joined them.
In 2007 the band made an appearance at the Live Earth concert in Sydney .
He was well known for his virtuoso Lapsteelspiel (guitar lying on the thighs) and that with "He usually open tunings " (guitar is tuned to a chord) plays.
On March 23, 2009, John Butler announced on the official band website that he would split up with his band members in April. The reasons for this are "purely artistic". In 2009, Nicky Bomba, who was born in Malta and was involved in the recordings of the album Sunrise over Sea in 2004 (drummer, Melbourne), and Byron Luiters (bassist, Sydney) joined the trio and made up the line-up with John Butler as lead singer until 2013 .
John Butler started his own record label Jarrah Records with a friend . It is named after a South Australian species of eucalyptus. In addition to the John Butler Trio , The Waifs also release their records on Jarrah Records.
On August 31, 2013, John Butler announced the departure of Nicky Bomba. He was succeeded by Grant Gerathy , with whom the JBT will tour in 2014.
