The Waifs are a folk rock band from Western Australia . The original line-up of the band includes Josh Cunningham (guitar, vocals) and the sisters Vikki Thorn (harmonica, guitar, vocals) and Donna Simpson (guitar, vocals). The tour band also includes Ben Franz (bass) and David Ross MacDonald (drums).

history

The Waifs were founded in 1992. Siblings Donna Simpson and Vikki Simpson (now Vikki Thorn) from Albany, Western Australia toured with a duo called Colors . They met Josh Cunningham at a concert in Broome.

Her 2003 album Up All Night went double platinum in Australia and made it into the top 5 of the Australian album charts. The Waifs also won the ARIA Awards in October 2003. The band played as the opener of Bob Dylan's 2003 tour of Australia. He was so impressed that he took the band on his North America tour that same year, which included a gig at Part of the Newport Folk Festival .

Together with John Butler , The Waifs belongs to the independent label Jarrah Records .
