The hornbill club (English Hornbill Club, French Bec d'oiseau) is a weapon used by the inhabitants of Melanesia .
description
The hornbill club is made of wood. The shaft is round in the lower area. Shortly before the impact head, the shaft becomes a little thicker and merges into the impact head at a right angle . The striking head has the shape of a stylized bird's head. The hornbill (Bucerotidae), which is native there, served as a model . At the end of the shaft a pommel is carved out, over which an ornament made from the colored hair of the flying fox (pteropus) is attached. A hook is usually formed on the back of the impact head.
