Camille O'Sullivan

Camille O'Sullivan (born December 30, 1974 in London ) is an Irish singer , actress , painter and architect .

life and work

The daughter of a French artist and an Irish racing driver was born in London. She grew up in Cork . She studied painting for a year before taking up and graduating in architecture in Dublin. She worked as an architect and in 2000 won the Architectural Association of Ireland Award.

During her studies, she took part in theater and shows. During a stay in Berlin she discovered her interest in the songs of Hanns Eisler , Friedrich Hollaender and Kurt Weill . Back in Dublin she was inspired by Agnes Bernelle's performances . However, she continued to work as an architect.

In 1999 she had a serious car accident with life-threatening injuries. During the lengthy recovery, O'Sullivan decided to work exclusively as an artist in the future.

She was one of the original cast of the variety show “La Clique”, which won the “Laurence Olivier Award for Best Entertainment” in 2009. Other shows with which she became known include "La Fille du Cirque", "Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris" and "Dark Angel".

In addition to her musical work, O'Sullivan is successful as a theater and film actress (see for example the filmography below). She also exhibited her paintings at the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin.

Camille O'Sullivan is considered an intensely dramatic interpreter of songs from the Weimar Republic as well as by Édith Piaf , Jacques Brel , Nick Cave , Tom Waits , David Bowie and others,
