Axel Zeeck

Axel Zeeck (born March 31, 1939 in Rummelsburg i. Pom. ) Is a German chemist and entrepreneur .

Life

Zeeck studied chemistry from 1958 to 1964 at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . In 1966 he was in Hans Brockmann with the dissertation oxidation and elimination reactions at diazomethane adduct of bis-α-naphthoquinone to Dr. rer. nat. PhD. In 1974 he completed his habilitation. He then received the venia legendi and in 1980 became Professor of Organic Chemistry . From 1999 to 2006 he held the chair for biomolecular chemistry. He was also dean and vice-president (1983–1985) at the University of Göttingen as well as a councilor at the University of Osnabrück.

His research focus is natural product research. He was the spokesman for the Lower Saxony research association “Marine Biotechnology” and initiated marine natural product research at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research . He worked on around 200 key words for the Römpp Lexikon Naturstoffe .

Since his retirement in 2006 he has been the founder and managing director of BioViotica Naturstoffe GmbH .

Axel Zeeck is a cousin of Erich Zeeck , professor emeritus for physical chemistry at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg .
