Erich Zeeck

Erich Hans Christian Zeeck (born November 1, 1932 in Rostock ) is a German chemist. From 1971 to 1974 he taught as an adjunct professor for physical chemistry at the Technical University of Berlin and from 1975 until his retirement in 2001 as a full professor for physical and general chemistry at the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg .

Life

After graduating with distinction from high school in Plön / Holstein (see Gymnasium Schloss Plön ) in 1953 , he began studying chemistry at the University of Tübingen as a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation , switched to the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich in 1957 and was there in 1962 Georg-Maria Schwab and J. Voitländer with the dissertation topic "Mikrowellenmeßmethoden to investigate the chemisorption of powdered semiconductors" doctorate . He then worked as a postdoc with Hermann Hartmann at the University of Frankfurt in the field of theoretical chemistry, became a scientific assistant to Günter Gliemann at the Technical University of Berlin in 1966 and completed his habilitation there in 1970 with the submission of the habilitation thesis “(pd) π-bond in compounds of Silicon, phosphorus, sulfur and chlorine ”. In 1971 he was offered a position as scientific advisor and professor at the Technical University of Berlin and in 1975 he was offered a full professorship for physical and general chemistry at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg. In 2001 he retired.

Erich Zeek is married to Anna Xiulan Zeeck , a German writer, translator and publisher from China. Axel Zeeck - a cousin of Erich Zeeck - is professor emeritus for organic chemistry at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen .

Act

Zeeck's research focused on theoretical investigations into questions of chemical bonding, investigations into the penetration and metabolism of carcinogenic substances in mammalian cells and, in the last decades of his work, the chemical identification of sex pheromones in marine invertebrates (invertebrates). In his working group, the first structural clarifications of such pheromones in marine invertebrates were made.
