Brendan O'Carroll

Brendan O'Carroll (born September 15, 1955 in Finglas , Dublin ) is an Irish writer, producer, comedian, actor and director. He is best known for portraying the foul-hearted matriarch Agnes Loretta Brown on the British sitcom Mrs. Brown's Boys .

Life

O'Carroll's mother Maureen was an MP for the Irish Labor Party and his father Gerard was a carpenter ; he says his parents had a huge impact on his life. At the age of only 12 he left school and worked as a waiter and milkman, among other things.

From 1977 to 1999 he was married to Doreen O'Carroll. In 2005 he married Jennifer Gibney . He has four children: Brendan, Danny, Fiona and Eric. His first son, Brendan, named after him, died at the age of only four years of complications from the neural tube defect spina bifida . Danny and Fiona play alongside other family members in Mrs. Brown's Boys .

O'Carroll's paternal grandfather, Peter O'Carroll, was shot dead on October 16, 1920 at home in Manor Street, Dublin. The killer was exposed as Jocelyn Lee Hardy in David Neligan's (a British double agent during the Irish War of Independence under Michael Collins ).

O'Carroll is a member of Mensa International and a supporter of Manchester United and Liverpool FC .

Career

O'Carroll began his career in 1992 when he became known for the radio piece Mrs Brown's Boys ; the four books The Mammy , The Granny , The Chisellers and The Scrapper followed . In 1999, on his book was published The Mammy based film women among themselves , in which Anjelica Huston , the director led, and also the leading role played; he worked on the script for the film .

Because of the success, he decided to start his own family theater called Mrs. Brown's Boys .

From 1999 to 2009 he wrote five plays. In 2011 these were adapted for television as a sitcom and until 2014 a total of 25 episodes were broadcast in three seasons on RTÉ One and BBC One ; in parallel, there have been several stage tours within the UK since 2011 .

The movie Mrs. Brown's Boys D'Movie was released in UK theaters on June 27, 2014 and stayed at number one among new releases for two weeks. Although the film was a hit with the public, it received scathing reviews.
