The Coronas are a four-piece Irish indie rock alternative band from Terenure , Dublin .

history

The band was founded under the name "Kiros" when the members were 15 years old, but three years later (after a typewriter brand) renamed "Corona". When the Italian dance act Corona appeared, the band changed their name to "The Coronas".

The first album, Heroes or Ghosts , was released in October 2007 and hit number 24 in the Irish charts. The second album, Tony Was An Ex-Con , was released on September 25, 2009, and reached number 3. It won the 2010 Meteor Award for best album, ahead of U2 and Snow Patrol . In 2011 the band released their third studio album Closer to You , which was produced by Tony Hoffer , whose work with, for example, The Kooks you can clearly hear on the album.
