Phil Coulter
Phil Coulter (born February 19, 1942 in Derry ) is a Northern Irish songwriter , interpreter and music producer .
Together with his colleague Bill Martin , he wrote a large number of hits for the most varied and well-known performers in the 1960s and 1970s. In 1967 the duo wrote the title Puppet on a String , with which Sandie Shaw won the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna in 1967. During his comeback in the 1980s, Coulter became known for interpreting his own works. He is now a well-known musician in his home country and far beyond.
Solo career
In 1984 he released his instrumental solo album Classic Tranquility , in which he processed many well-known Irish tunes .
The follow-up album Sea of Tranquility followed the idea of its predecessor. It became the second best-selling album in Ireland .
Phil Coulter moved from London to Ireland, where he set up a recording studio and office in his home in Bray (south Dublin ). He continued to produce music and performed on various occasions around the globe, for example in the White House on Saint Patrick's Day .
In 1995 the Irish Rugby Football Union approached Coulter and asked him to write a politically neutral anthem for the Irish national rugby team - which represents both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The result was Ireland's Call . At rugby matches in the Republic of Ireland, both Amhrán na bhFiann (the host's national anthem, Republic of Ireland) and Ireland's Call (the home team 's anthem) are sung. However, Ireland's Call is used as the only anthem for away games .
On Coulter's official website you can read that his albums have already achieved 23 platinum, 39 gold and 52 silver status. Phil Coulter, however, keeps a wall in his house completely free, “ to remind me that there's still room for a lot more ” (German: “ to remind me that there is still room for much more”).
