Gogol Bordello is a band from New York that was formed in 1999. The band's sound was inspired by traditional Roma music and mixes it with punk and dub . The texts are mainly written in English , but also in Ukrainian and Romani . Accordion and violin have been added to the classic punk band line-up (vocals, drums, electric guitar, bass), and a percussionist and two dancers who also contribute to the percussion are part of the band for the live shows.
Band history
The band was founded in 1999 by the Ukrainian immigrant Eugene Hütz , (Russian: Евгений Гудзь), a number of musicians from Eastern Europe and Israel and an American drummer. They had previously played at weddings together.
In the American film Everything is Enlightened by Liev Schreiber with Elijah Wood , Gogol Bordello appear. Eugene Hütz plays one of the main roles and his band also appears briefly.
On July 7, 2007, the band accompanied Madonna during the gig with their hit La Isla Bonita as part of the Live Earth Concert at Wembley Stadium in London . The band had previously appeared in the first film Filth and Wisdom made under Madonna's direction , which premiered at the 2008 Berlinale and in which Hütz played the leading role.
The fifth studio album by Gogol Bordello Trans-Continental Hustle was influenced by Latin after Hütz's two-year stay in Brazil . The multiple Grammy award winner Rick Rubin served as the producer .
