Balkan Beat Box is a world music group founded by Ori Kaplan , Tamir Muskat and Tomer Yosef .

History and style

Co-founders Ori Kaplan and Tamir Muskat both grew up in Israel , but first met in Brooklyn . Both grew up with music. Kaplan was a klezmer clarinetist and played with Gogol Bordello , among others , while Muskat was the drummer of a punk band . The two developed their very own style by combining the musical sounds of Jewish klezmer, sounds of the Mediterranean and Balkans with hip-hop and dancehall beats. The group is heavily influenced by Jamaican dub , with other influences in their mixed musical form. The goals of Balkan Beat Box were to merge old and traditional musical traditions with those of the hiphops in order to create a new form of music that can be used to appeal to the visitors of clubs or discos . Balkan Beat Box understand their music as an attempt to support peace and international understanding.

The first album Balkan Beat Box was released in 2005 on Shantels Essay Recordings . In 2007 the second album followed with the title Nu-Med . Both albums received worldwide attention. While the first album focuses more on Mediterranean sounds, the second album contains more Arabic and Spanish influences.

The band names Boban Marković , Rachid Taha , Fanfare Ciocărlia , Manu Chao and Charlie Parker as influencers of their music.

About Uri Kinrot and Tomer Yosef also relations with the Israeli consist Klezmer - rock band Boom Pam , who - just publish at Essay Recordings in Frankfurt - as Balkan Beat Box on their first album.

Her song Hermetico was sampled by Jason Derulo for the song Talk Dirty .
