Wolfmother is an Australian rock band from Erskineville, a suburb of Sydney . Their music is often described as stoner rock . It ties in with the style of bands such as Led Zeppelin , Black Sabbath , AC / DC , Aerosmith , Deep Purple and Black Crowes .

Band history

Performance by the band Wolfmother (2007)

The band was formed in 2000. In September 2003, the band released their eponymous debut - EP with the label Modular Recordings . In 2005 they recorded their first album, also called Wolfmother , together with producer Dave Sardy (including Slayer , Marilyn Manson , Oasis ) in Los Angeles , which was released in October 2005. With this album they achieved success in the Australian (No. 3), the US (No. 22) and the British charts (No. 25). In Australia the album went five times platinum .

In the same year they won the J Award , given by the Australian radio station Triple J , for the best album. In Rolling Stone magazine they were among the Top 10 Bands to Watch in 2006 (roughly: bands that you should keep in mind) listed.

At the Grammy Awards 2006 , the song Woman won the Grammy in the category "Best Hard Rock Performance".

In 2006 they performed at major festivals such as the Australian Big Day Out and the Hurricane Festival at Scheeßel between Hamburg and Bremen. In 2007 they performed at the Roskilde Festival and at Rock am Ring , as well as at Rock im Park . Her song Love Train was used in an Apple iPod commercial in 2006 . Joker & the Thief was chosen as the theme song for the movie Jackass Number 2, played in Shrek the Third , and it appears in the advertising of the Peugeot 308SW. Likewise, Joker & The Thief was used in the comedy Hangover . In addition, the very memorable intro of the song underlines the first escape of the main character Smith in the film Shoot 'Em Up ; Woman ran in an Xbox 360 advertisement for the game Guitar Hero II , where it is also a playable song. Furthermore, the songs Dimension and Pyramid appear in the video game FlatOut 2 . In addition, the song Joker and the Thief appears in the racing game Need for Speed: Carbon and in the rally game Colin Mcrae Dirt, as well as Woman in Motorstorm and Pure, two other racing games including Tony Hawk's Project 8 . The song Vagabond from her first album appeared in the love comedy "500 Days of Summer" .

In 2007 they made an appearance at the Live Earth concert in Sydney. Here the band played Woman , Apple Tree , Pleased to Meet You and Dimension, among others .

On August 7, 2008, Ross and Heskett announced that they were leaving the band. Stockdale wants to continue to be active with new musicians under the Wolfmother name. In 2009 the new album Cosmic Egg was released .

In 2010 Wolfmother was supposed to appear as the opening act for Kiss , but later canceled the performances due to illness.

On the 2010 self-titled solo album by ex Guns N 'Roses guitarist Slash Andrew Stockdale sang the song By The Sword , which was then released as the first single.

On April 22, 2010, the band announced that Dave Atkins had left the band. The new drummer is Will Rockwell-Scott.

On March 8, 2013 Stockdale put the new album for free download on SoundCloud , but under his name. He said that he had no desire to call this album Wolfmother or to play concerts under that name. What that meant for Wolfmother's future was still open at the time. On the same day, Andrew Stockdale announced that Wolfmother had temporarily disbanded and that the current formation would continue as a solo project. In July of the same year it was announced that Wolfmother would go on tour again. That same month, drummer Elliot Hammond resigned.

On March 23, 2014, the band released their third studio album entitled New Crown on the online music portal Bandcamp without promoting it in advance, as is usual.

On February 19, 2016, the band's fourth studio album, Victorious, was released. Studio musicians Josh Freese and Joey Waronker played the drums, while Alex Carapetis played the drums on the tour that followed.
