Jackass ( German : Idiot, Dummkopf, Trottel ) is an American television program on the music channel MTV . The series was produced from 2000 to 2002 and first broadcast in Germany on February 8, 2001. In each episode, the protagonists performed dangerous or self-harming stunts and tests of courage.

In Jackass , stunts and pranks were shown by various actors. The protagonists also had to pass disgusting tests of courage or consciously put themselves into life-threatening situations. The actors, all stunt professionals according to the disclaimer, mostly come from the skateboarding scene , which was always underlined during the broadcasts. At first, Johnny Knoxville tried self-defense devices such as tasers , pepper spray and stun guns on himself.

At the beginning, the skater magazine Big Brother Magazine supported the Jackass team with their ideas, which were then further developed by MTV. Musically, most of the programs were accompanied by genre-typical punk rock music. Was presented Jackass in a classic style MTV typical productions as infotainment program with satirical content. The title melody comes from the song Corona by the band Minutemen .

Film adaptations

After the series ended, four films based on the series Jackass were released with Jackass: The Movie , Jackass: Number Two , Jackass 3D and Jackass: Bad Grandpa .

Follow-up projects

Steve-O and Chris Pontius were the main characters in the Wildboyz series from 2003 to 2006 , Bam Margera had two series of his own with Viva La Bam and Bam's Unholy Union and Ryan Dunn hosted the Homewrecker program .

Jackass: The Game

In September 2007, a video game for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable was released worldwide . An offshoot for the Nintendo DS followed in January 2008 . Players can slip into the roles of the protagonists and perform various stunts analogous to the television series.
