The Fun Lovin 'Criminals (or FLC for short) are an alternative rock band from New York City . Their music is a mixture of numerous musical styles such as hip-hop , rock , blues and jazz . Her songs are often about everyday life in megacities like New York, which is characterized by violence , crime , drugs and poverty . Occasionally they take up existential questions in their songs.
Band history
The band was formed in 1993 by Hugh Morgan, Brian Leiser and then drummer Steve Borovini. The band became known worldwide in 1996 with their hit Scooby Snacks with sound clips from Quentin Tarantino's films . The band's first album, Come Find Yourself , was released in 1996 and contained the hit single Scooby Snacks . The second album 100% Colombian released in 1998 contained a little less rock elements. Singles were Love Unlimited , a tribute to Barry White , and Big Night Out . The 1999 album Mimosa contained almost only covers and other versions of previously released tracks. With their publications, the Fun Lovin 'Criminals achieved cult status in their hometown and far beyond. In Europe too, especially in the British Isles, they gained a large following after the release of their first two albums.
In 1999 Borovini left the band after having "gone a little crazy and then emigrated to Peru" in the words of Morgan. Borovini later had success again with Needledrop and CC JONES . He was replaced by Maxwell Jayson, who in turn was replaced in 2003 by Frank Benbini from Leicester , England , who had previously worked for the band as Jayson's technician. Only the 2001 album Loco with the hit single of the same name again contained new song material with a more relaxed sound and strong trip-hop influences. Her next album Welcome to Poppy’s was released in 2003 and had more upbeat and rock influences. The album Livin 'In The City was released in 2005 and contained the single Mi Corazon .
In the years that followed, the three musicians were involved in a bitter argument with their first manager, whom they fired in 2003. They all left New York and moved to England . In their London studio, the band produced a new album together with Grammy winner Tim Latham. Huey Morgan also presented Slips on MTV and The Huey Show on BBC6 Radio . In March 2010 the new album was released with the title Classic Fantastic . In 2011 the band released their first live album, Fun, Live and Criminal .
Hugh Morgan also occasionally hosted the British show The Buzzcocks , but achieved dubious notoriety on one show in 2013 when he smashed a cup out of frustration that the Rizzle Kicks duo had allegedly "stolen" their lyrics.
On January 18, 2019, the band released Another Mimosa , the title of which refers to the 1999 compilation Mimosa . The album consists of nine cover songs , including compositions by The Notorious BIG , Neil Diamond , Bobby Womack and Tom Petty , a lounge remake of the song Southside from the album 100% Colombian , a samba remix by Love Unlimited and the new song Sunset .
